How to do an organisational culture video right

Yarra Valley Water’s fresh fast-paced career video promotes their welcoming, relaxed, and happy culture.

Yarra Valley Water’s colourful career video is an excellent example of talent attraction, demonstrating to potential candidates how they invest in their people. The organisation doesn’t sell themselves solely on being Melbourne’s largest water corporation, but show how the welfare and happiness of their people is the driver behind their business success.

Their strong vibrant culture forms the foundation of their Employee Value Proposition; the video begins “What is the culture like at Yarra Valley Water?” Their people use powerful adjectives such as “collaborative”, “amazing”, and “empowering”.

The interactive techniques in the video exemplify these values, with employees throwing a bright ball between split shots, smiling and laughing. These shots are underscored with positive quotes from their people.

“They care about you as a person, you’re not just another number.”

“It’s a place where everyone’s differences complement one another.”

Employees speak about how they value their work, are motivated, inspired, and have a sense of purpose because they are trusted and feel as if they are making a difference. Their poeple state they feel as if they are part of something greater and are working towards a common goal in a lifelong career. They also talk about the opportunities they’ve been given and speak about their experiences.

“I love working here.”

The video is interspliced with footage from work functions, barbeques and site work.

If your organisation has a mixture of onsite and office employees, your video can benefit from interviewing site workers to demonstrate a sense of unity. In creating a careers video, you may also consider using an end card, a final image with your logo, branding and the link address to your careers website to give your viewers a call to action.

Yarra Valley Water highlights its inclusive, welcoming and empowering work environment, as well as its diverse and motivated group of people. The video’s strengths are its simplicity, honesty and relatability.
