Staying healthy while working from home

In uncertain times, many employers have made the decision to allow their team members to work from home. While remote work may be appealing for some (hello, no commute!), but can be challenging for others (sorry, extroverts).

With health and safety issues on our minds, keep up healthy workplace practices at home to keep fit and avoid the negative impacts of sitting down all day.

Here are three simple tips to stay healthy while working from home, from Australian workplace charity, Tour de Office.

  1. Set a reminder to move

In the office, you may be used to getting up regularly to talk to coworkers or move from meeting to meeting. But when you’re working from home and there’s less reason to move, it can often fall by the wayside. Set an alarm to stretch your legs and get your blood flowing.

Bonus: Being in your own home is a great opportunity to do some basic exercise you can’t complete in the office. Do a few yoga poses or jog on the spot for a minute.

  1. Take a proper lunch break

No, we don’t mean moving to the couch for some Netflix. Give your eyes a rest by stepping away from your desk, avoiding screens, and spending some time in a different part of the house for that hour break.

  1. Find your 30

Make sure you’re getting in 30 minutes of exercise a day. Staying active during challenging times is great for both your physical and mental health.

Squeeze in a workout in the morning or afternoon, during the time you are typically commuting. It’s also a chance to get some important Vitamin D, to clear your mind, get through your work-day or unwind from it.
